Today I am over the moon to be part of The Dead House Mirror Tour!  Carly is one of the main characters in The Dead House and today I bring you her reactions to horror scenes!

But that’s not all!

As the tag line suggests…Carly gets the day. Kaitlyn gets the night!

*evil laugh*

Check out fab U.S blogger www.onceuponatwilight.com for Kaitlyn’s reactions to horror scenes bringing two sides of this blog post to life as part of The Dead House mirror tour!

The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich was released on the 6th August 2015 in the UK (published by Orion Childrens Books) and in September in the US  and is set to be one creepy read!  And we all know I like a creepy read right?!

I am THAT excited about this book I wrote a spotlight post previously where Dawn kindly shared a scary teaser – here

I also featured on The Dead House audio tour with a creepy audio reading from the book – here

So what’s The Dead House all about……

index

Twenty-five years ago, Elmbridge High School burned down. The blaze killed three and injured twenty, and one pupil, Carly Johnson, disappeared. For two decades, little was revealed about what became known as the Johnson Incident.

Until now.

A diary has been found in the ruins of the school. In this diary, Kaitlyn Johnson, Carly’s twin, tells of the strange and disturbing sequence of events leading to the incident.

But Kaitlyn doesn’t exist. She never has.

Chilling, creepy and compelling, THE DEAD HOUSE is one of those very special books that finds all the dark places in your imagination, and haunts you long after you’ve finished reading.

Debut author Dawn Kurtagich masterfully weaves together a thrilling and terrifying story using psychiatric reports, witness testimonials, video footage, and the discovered diary – and as the mystery grows, the horrifying truth about what happened that night unfolds.

Famous Horror Scenes – What would Carly do?

Scene 1: Rosemary’s Baby Revealed

1f51a930030b76563667967fac4ece76

When Rosemary becomes pregnant (by nefarious means) things start to take a turn for the worse. She finds herself completely isolated from everything she once knew and her nosy neighbors, the Castevets, practically run her life. Rosemary’s paranoia increases and her worst fears are brought to a diabolical climax after she gives birth and realizes the truth about her son and the Castevets’ creepy circle of friends. Hint: it’s all in the eyes.” ~ quote

Carly: No. I don’t want to see this! The delay is exquisite, I’ll admit that. And I’m terrified to—No, Rosemary! Don’t look in the bassinet! If I were in her place, I don’t think I could do any different. Maybe I could keep from looking . . . But she looked! And his eyes . . . What have you done to his eyes! I can’t stomach it—I’m going to stop watching now.

Scene 2: Samara Crawls Out of the TV

As the duo begins to finally unravel the mystery of ‘The Ring,’ Noah gets an unexpected visit from the videotape’s star Samara. The creepy girl climbs out of the well and begins to walk toward the camera shooting the footage — which is spooky enough given her straggly hair and oddly-jointed gait. It becomes even more disturbing when she comes through the television screen and into Noah’s apartment.”~ quote

Carly: This scene terrifies me. I keep imaging Samara coming out of the TV at night, when Kaitlyn is around. I keep thinking: I saw the tape, just like Noah did. Just like they all did. And I haven’t made a copy. She’ll get Kaitlyn—and it’s my fault! I want to show Kaitlyn, to make sure she sees, but she’d laugh if she knew I was scared of a TV. Okay—switch it off, please.

Scene 3: Hellraiser Box Solve

hellraiser2

Kirsty (Ashley Laurence), having been assaulted by the skinless, reanimated corpse of her uncle, is spending some alone time in a hospital room. Her doctor, who hasn’t believed a word of her story, leaves her the ornate box she was found clutching for dear life in the hope that it will jog her memory. It doesn’t, but it does occupy her time once she realizes it’s a puzzle box. What happens when she solves the puzzle, however, is even worse than when her skinless uncle tried to make out with her. ~ quote

Carly: It’s like they bring it on themselves! She’s touching the box and she’s going to open it—and here it comes. Oh, god—why?! This is like Pandora’s box on steroids. The walls opening is disgusting and terrifying! And, of course, because she’s so curious, she walks towards the creepy gap in the wall with an endless corridor… makes complete sense. THINGS ARE SCREAMING AND SHE’S STILL WALKING FORWARD!!! Okay, the scorpion-human thing chased her but she’s “safely” back in her hospital room and the scorpion thing can be heard on the other side of the wall. I need to stop watching this right now. The glowing brick edges were enough. And bargaining with demons . . . never a good idea. Okiedokie… I need to go find a warm fluffy blanket and a good dose of F.R.I.E.N.D.S now. Bye…

About Dawn Kurtagich

71rLfwMrUBL._UX250_

Dawn Kurtagich is a writer of creepy, spooky and psychologically sinister YA fiction, where girls may descend into madness, boys may see monsters in men, and grown-ups may have something to hide. Her debut YA novel, The Dead House, is forthcoming from Orion/Indigo (UK) and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (US) in 2015.

By the time she was eighteen, she had been to fifteen schools across two continents. The daughter of a British globe-trotter and single mother, she grew up all over the place, but her formative years were spent in Africa–on a mission, in the bush, in the city and in the desert.

She has been lucky enough to see an elephant stampede at close range, a giraffe tongue at very close range, and she once witnessed the stealing of her (and her friends’) underwear by very large, angry baboons. (This will most definitely end up in a book . . . ) While she has quite a few tales to tell about the jumping African baboon spider, she tends to save these for Halloween!
